Great Central Road Closed to All Traffic 22/02/18

Floodwaters from former TC Kelvin have forced the closure of the Great Central Road to all traffic in the Shire of Laverton.

The next review of the road closure will be made at 9:00am on Monday 26 February 2018, although the Shire is hopeful that certain sections may be able to open earlier than this with restricted conditions to enable access to and from some local communities.

People wishing to travel between the Shire of Laverton and places further north in the Shire of Ngaanyatjarraku or the Northern Territory (including Warburton, Uluru and Alice Springs) will not be able to do so until the current road closure is lifted.  There are very deep floodwaters running over 1 metre deep across the road in many places and it is not safe to drive through these.

The following photographs were taken approximately 7km east of the Mt Shenton-Yamarna Road turnoff this morning and will give some idea of the conditions.

The Shire regrets any inconvenience and will continue to monitor road conditions for the safety of all travellers.  For up to date road closures within the Shire of Laverton, please visit our Road Condition Reports page.
