National On Farm Water Rebate Scheme

Department of Water and Environmental Regulation

We can provide funding assistance through a Commonwealth farm water rebate scheme which we are currently administrating. A rebate of 25% off eligible livestock water infrastructure items is available up to a maximum of $25,000.  While the information states one application per business we are allowing one application per lease for pastoralists. All pastoralists in the Shire are encouraged to take advantage of this, particularly when camels are destroying the infrastructure.

The website is at: http://www.water.wa.gov.au/planning-for-the-future/rural-water-support/on-farm-emergency-water-infrastructure-rebate

Unfortunately the water deficiency declaration only covers the dry land agriculture region (hence the 40km travel radius) and does not cover pastoralist areas. A large proportion of the pastoralist region has reasonable quality groundwater for livestock and currently  the issue is largely the camels destroying the water infrastructure. When reported to DWER, they have been alerting the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development to deal with the biosecurity issue.
